A number of the vintage trams featuring in 125th anniversary event are currently undergoing overhaul or restoration. This page keeps you up to date with progress as the cars edge towards completion.

Blackpool 'Standard' 143 [updated 05/05/10]

Standard_143_Interior_040510LTT's Standard 143 is rapidly approaching completion. The lower deck interior is all but finished with just a few minor details required. May 4th saw the seat cushions fitted - show off to good effect with the 24v saloon lighting turned on.
The top deck has been fitted and the internal bulkheads constructed. Wiring is now underway with the interior side panels and roof panels ready to to be fitted next. The swingover seats for the top deck are having their wooden bases fitted to the refurbished metal frames and attention is also focused on the balcony. Externally the headlights - obtained from the Tramway Museum Society have now been fitted as can be see on  143's blog  http://standard143.blogspot.com/
Blackpool Marton Box 31 [updated 30/07/10] 

After its temporary repaint into works car green, 31 has now been fully repainted into its 1920s guise once more - with further detail accuracy improvements undertaken. Pictures of the completed car are available on the Beamish Blog. 31 is now expected to move to Blackpool in mid to late August.

Blackpool 'Pantograph' 167 [updated 30/07/10] 

The TMS have undertaken a comprehensive bogie overhaul on this car in their workshops at Crich. Additionally the air system has been inspected and during April work has focused on painting the body exterior, fitting platform doors and the trolley base and pole. The Tramcar Sponsorship Organisation has funded much of the work. The car returned to service after succesful testing on Monday 26 July.

Blackpool 'Standard' 40 [updated 05/05/10] 

TMS owned Standard 40 has now returned to service at the Museum following a traction motor overhaul.

Blackpool 'Railcoach' 279 [updated 30/07/10]

279_seatsReverse engineering this car from a flat fronted towing car to a streamlined railcoach is in progress. The car now has new half drop windows fitted and swingover seats reinstated - with spare cushions in to test the mechanism pending the completion of its new set.
 

Blackpool 'OMO Car' 8 [updated 30/07/10]

OMO 8 is nearing completion of its interior refit with new side panels in place; light fittings reinstated and a heavy clean and interior repaint completed. Work is now focusing on the doors and traction wiring.

Events in Blackpool and on the Fylde

Thursday 9 to Sunday 12th September - Heritage Open Days. CA stunning variety of classic buildings is open for viewing over four days. For transport lovers, Saturday and Sunday sees tours of Blackpool by Classic Bus taking in several of the open day venues. The Bus leaves the Town Hall at 1030 and 1400. See the Heritage Open Days website for more details.

Thursday 23rd to Wednesday 29th September Anniversary Week: A packed week of events to mark the 125th anniversary. Starting with a Welcome Evening on the Thursday and Enthusiast events on the Friday, an intensive service of Vintage Trams will run on both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday will also see an open day at Blackpool Transport's 75 year old Rigby Road Tram Depot and the adjacent bus depot and workshops. Monday and Tuesday will see further enthusiast events with the week finishing with a parade of Blackpool Trams and an anniversary dinner on the Wednesday. Thursdays 30 September and 14 October: Dine and Ride through the Illuminations - a three course evening meal at the Solaris centre followed by a tour of the famous Blackpool Illuminations on 1920s Standard 143. For full details and how to book please see the totallyTransport website

Sunday 21st November Heaton Park Tramway (Manchester) "Celebration of Blackpool's Trams and Transport" featuring visiting 'Vanguard' 619 and a special one off visit from another Blackpool tram! Vintage buses operating from LTT collection.
