Anniversaries: 75th 1960

The 75th anniversary of the Blackpool Tramway back in 1960 was marked by the restoration of four cars. Three of these were extracted from long term storage. Dreadnought 59 was the first officially preserved car when it was set aside in 1935; Conduit car 4 (restored as car 1) had been in store since been declared redundant as a works car in 1934. Fleetwood Rack 2 had been stored since the mid 1950s when its duties as a snow plough car had become redundant and the final car-  Fleetwood Box 40 was still in use as an Engineering car in 1959. All four saw varying degrees of restoration undertaken in the Corporation workshops.

The celebrations took place on Thursday 29 April and involved two processions from Pleasure Beach to Little Bispham and back to Talbot Square featuring:

Conduit car 4 (as car 1) of 1885 (now at in TMS Collection at Crich)
Fleetwood Rack 2 of 1898 (now in TMS Collection at Crich)
Dreadnought 59 of 1902 (now in TMS Collection but not on display)
Fleetwood Box 40 of 1914 (now in TMS collection but on loan to Blackpool)
Standard 40 of 1926 (the last open balcony car and now in TMS Collection at Crich)
Pantograph 170 of 1928 (which later formed the base of the HMS Blackpool feature car)
Railcoach 217 of 1934 (scrapped 1965)
Boat 236 of 1934 (now 607 and withdrawn)
Balloon 249 of 1935 (now 712)
